British Sugar is a home-grown success story and one of the most efficient and competitive beet processers in the world. Around 3,500 farmers based in East Anglia and the East Midlands supply our four advanced manufacturing sites with eight million tonnes of sugar beet every year. We, in turn, make this in to over 1 million tonnes of sugar, serving customers across the UK, Ireland and increasingly growing commercially in the EU and world sugar markets.

At British Sugar, finance is at the heart everything we do. Through our sugar manufacturing process, we support key decision making across a number of core and by-products. As a Level 3 Finance Apprentice, you’ll develop a solid foundation in financial reporting, controllership, technical accounting and governance. You’ll provide structured support to the Financial Controllership team whilst working toward a professional finance qualification (AAT).
What you will be doing:
Gain experience in core financial activities – e.g. balance sheet reconciliation, audit preparation, journal entries
Collation and analysis of financial data to support statutory and management reporting
Support automation and continuous improvement across the function
Ensure financial controls and internal control frameworks are maintained
What you will need:
You will need a minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Level 5/C or above which must include Maths, English and a Science
An ability to prioritise and communicate effectively, with great team work skills
Understanding of compliance and business ethics, passion for continued learning and development
Willing and able to work in Peterborough or relocate to one of the following manufacturing sites: Wissington, Bury St Edmunds, Cantley, or Newark, during or after the programme (dependent on role availability).
