Engineering Technician
Location: Cambridge
Salary: £25,000 – £29,000
Full-time | Permanent
Are you someone who loves rolling up your sleeves, experimenting with new tech, and seeing ideas come to life? We’re on the lookout for a hands-on, detail-obsessed Engineering Technician to join our R&D team, someone who’s just as happy behind a soldering iron as they are setting up 3D prints or machining a prototype part. This is an opportunity to be right in the thick of innovation, supporting engineers as they turn concepts into products, tweaking designs, solving problems, and making things better with every iteration.
What You’ll Be Doing:
* Running tests on prototypes (electronic and mechanical), making sure they meet spec and perform under pressure.
* Working with manual milling machines and lathes to fine-tune or modify parts.
* Keeping the 3D printing area running like a dream, managing machines, materials, and maintenance.
* Soldering like a pro: both surface mount and through-hole components. Helping assemble, inspect, and document everything from cables to custom components.
* Keeping the engineering lab organised, efficient, and safe. Basically, the glue that keeps the place together.
* Collaborating closely with engineers, offering feedback, and being a vital part of product development.
What We’re Looking For:
* Someone who’s genuinely hands-on and enjoys practical problem-solving. Comfortable with precision soldering, cable assemblies, and PCB work.
* Familiarity with 3D printers, CAD tools, and mechanical/electronic prototyping.
* Experience using manual machining tools like mills and lathes.
* Good understanding of measurement tools and quality checks (FAI, metrology).
* Organised, proactive, and ready to pitch in wherever needed.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Ideally an HNC (or equivalent) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
* Previous experience in a hands-on prototyping or lab support role.
What’s In It For You?
* A varied, engaging role where no two days are the same.
* Opportunities to grow into Senior Technician or NPI Engineer roles.
* A collaborative, supportive team that genuinely values your contribution.
* The chance to work at the cutting edge of R&D, helping ideas become reality.
If you love working with your hands, learning something new every day, and being part of a team where your input matters, we’d love to hear from you
