Mechanical Engineer
Contract: Permanent
Location: Leeds
Salary: £55,000-£70,000 DOE
Role available immediately
Primarily office‑based
My client is a growing engineering business with an expanding in‑house design team, and they are now seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join their Leeds office. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who brings strong technical expertise, enjoys taking ownership of their work, and thrives in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
The Role
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a central role in the design and delivery of mechanical systems across a wide range of engineering projects. You will act as a key point of contact for clients and suppliers, ensuring clear communication and consistent project updates.
While the role includes some CAD involvement, it is not CAD‑heavy- the focus is on engineering design, coordination, communication, and supporting the wider in‑house design team.
Day‑to‑day responsibilities include:
• Delivering mechanical design packages from concept through to commissioning
• Acting as a reliable point of contact for clients and suppliers
• Depending on your level of experience, you may also provide guidance and training to junior team members where appropriate
• Managing workload effectively to maintain a strong professional reputation
• Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across all project stages
• Selecting equipment and leading discussions with the supply chain
• Preparing hydraulic calculations for gravity and pumped systems
• Producing detailed equipment schedules
• Participating in design studies such as HAZOP and ALM workshops
• Working with the CAD team to support the production of detailed drawings and models
• Reviewing internal and external documentation to ensure compliance with project scopes
• Supporting construction and commissioning phases, including site visits and virtual meetings
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking a confident, self‑sufficient engineer with 3-5 years of relevant experience, ideally within the water or wastewater sector. However, you may also have relevant experience in civils, construction, or stormwater/building storm projects, and this will be considered valuable.
Essential requirements:
• HNC or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
• Experience in the design or delivery of water/wastewater projects
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• A proactive, organised approach with excellent time‑management
• Right to work in the UK
• Full UK driving licence
Career Growth & Development
This role offers a genuine opportunity to grow your career, take ownership of your work, and progress within a business that continues to expand year after year. Whether you’re aiming to step into a more senior engineering role, lead client discussions, or mentor others, my client provides the platform and support to help you achieve it.
You’ll be joining a team that values collaboration, initiative, and continuous improvement and you’ll play a key part in shaping the future of the in‑house design function.
Interview Process
The process is designed to be straightforward and personable:
• Stage 1: A 30‑minute Microsoft Teams call — an informal conversation to get to know you, and for you to get to know the team
• Stage 2: If successful, you’ll be invited to the Leeds office for a face‑to‑face interview
My client is actively recruiting, and with the team continuing to grow, this is a fantastic opportunity - don’t miss out
