Job Description:

Our client develops, designs and manufactures processing equipment to produce fibres for specialist industrial and biomedical applications. There is an immediate vacancy for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its engineering team.

The successful candidate will work on fast paced projects for our worldwide customer base, who range from academic institutions to multinational corporations.

The core part of the job will be to take a leading role in the engineering design of fibre processing equipment. This will include evaluating performance of equipment designs and developing solutions to any problems encountered.

This work includes:

- Understanding the requirements of the customer’s projects and translating these to manufacturing designs

- Producing manufacturing drawings by creating equipment and component designs through CAD and prototyping.

- Coordinating manufacture of components at subcontractors and assembly on site and tracking project costs,

- Testing and evaluating the processing performance of equipment, investigating any problems encountered and developing solutions.

- The role will involve working collaboratively with the R&D, Control Systems and Production Teams at FET.

Personal Qualities:

- The ideal candidate will be an experienced innovative engineer capable of developing designs for bespoke fibre production systems and will be able to demonstrate:

- The aptitude for understanding processing systems.

- An ability to think logically and learn quickly

- A willingness to work flexibly as a member of the team.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

Essential:

- A strong background in mechanical engineering - graduate or equivalent, with a minimum of 2-3 years employment experience.

- Experienced and highly skilled 2D AutoCAD designer.

- Good communications skills, across the range of colleagues, suppliers and customers,.

Desirable:

- Experience of developing process lines, especially polymer extrusion and fibre forming processes.

- Experience of SolidWorks

- Knowledge of process instrumentation and control systems.

- Background knowledge of polymer science and engineering.
