SEN Teacher

Salary: £15 PAYE Inclusive of Holiday pay or £17 Umbrella pay

Job Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate, adaptable, and experienced Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teacher to join our dedicated team within a hospital school setting. This unique role involves delivering high-quality, personalised education to children and young people receiving medical treatment, many of whom have complex physical and/or mental health needs, SEND, or long-term conditions impacting their learning.
Key Responsibilities:
* Plan and deliver tailored lessons across a broad curriculum, taking into account pupils’ individual health, emotional, and educational needs.
* Work closely with medical staff, therapists, families, and external agencies to support holistic development and wellbeing.
* Develop and adapt Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in line with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) where applicable.
* Provide continuity of education for pupils who may be out of mainstream school for extended periods.
* Use creative and flexible approaches to teaching in both bedside and small classroom settings within the hospital.
* Monitor and assess progress regularly, recording achievements and reporting to the wider team and home school where appropriate.
* Create a nurturing, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for children with a range of diagnoses including ASD, SEMH, chronic illness, and physical disabilities.
* Maintain safeguarding, confidentiality, and GDPR standards at all times.
Requirements:
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – ideally with SEN specialism or experience.
* Proven experience teaching children with special educational needs, preferably in a medical or alternative provision setting.
* Strong understanding of differentiated teaching, EHCPs, and SEND Code of Practice.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
* Empathetic, resilient, and calm under pressure.
Desirable:
* Experience working in a hospital, PRU, or home tuition environment.
* Additional qualifications in SEN, mental health, or trauma-informed practice.
* Familiarity with assistive technology and alternative communication strategies
