Job brief:
An opportunity has arisen for a SHEQ Manager within the manufacturing side of the our client which is a leading manufacturer in the area.
This role is responsible for leading health, safety, and quality practices in a fast-paced production environment, ensuring compliance with PUWER regulations and promoting best practices among production teams.
You will be based at our clients site in Bilston, with occasional travel to other sites as required. The role requires a strong focus on workplace safety, machinery compliance, and fostering a proactive safety culture across the factory floor.
Purpose of the role:
To provide expert SHEQ guidance and support to production operations, ensuring a safe working environment and embedding a strong safety culture. The role will focus on the physical safety of teams, leading proactive initiatives to reduce risks and improve working practices.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities
Health and Safety Management
* Develop, implement, and maintain robust health and safety policies, procedures, and practices in line with current legislation and industry standards.
* Lead on PUWER compliance, ensuring machinery and equipment safety assessments are conducted and control measures are implemented.
* Conduct regular risk assessments and implement practical control measures to mitigate hazards in a manufacturing setting.
* Provide hands-on support and guidance to production teams, operators, and managers on safe working practices.
* Oversee incident investigations, reporting, and corrective actions, driving a culture of continuous improvement.
* Promote behavioural safety initiatives and encourage active participation in safety programs.
* Environmental and Quality Management
* Support the implementation of environmental management systems, ensuring compliance with regulations and promoting sustainable practices.
* Contribute to maintaining and improving quality management systems, ensuring production processes meet customer and regulatory requirements.
* Assist in internal and external audits to retain ISO and compliance accreditations.
* Compliance and Regulatory Requirements
* Stay up to date with relevant health, safety, and manufacturing regulations, including PUWER and COSHH, ensuring factory compliance.
* Liaise with regulatory bodies and maintain positive working relationships.
* Provide guidance on legislative changes and their impact on production operations.
* Training and Education
* Develop and deliver targeted safety training programs for production teams, focusing on practical applications, PUWER compliance, and hazard awareness.
Duties
* Promote continuous learning and best practice sharing across teams.
* Performance Monitoring and Reporting
* Monitor safety performance through regular site inspections and audits.
* Report on key safety metrics, including near-misses, incidents, and corrective actions.
* Identify and address trends, driving proactive improvements.
