About the School
The school encompasses two sites in Dorchester with one common shared purpose: to provide the very best in education and support for all children who (for a variety of reasons) find themselves outside of mainstream school education. The school is an alternative provision that uses vocational and extracurricular methods to enable the students to gain functional and life skills. With a primary and secondary division, the school is inclusive of all ages and abilities and strives to give its pupils the best possible opportunities for post 16 life.

Key Responsibilities of Behaviour Support Assistant

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you’ll play a crucial role in creating a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment. Your responsibilities will include:

Individual Behaviour Support: Work one-on-one or in small groups to support students with behavioural challenges, helping them manage emotions and develop positive coping strategies.
Crisis Intervention: Respond calmly and effectively to behavioural incidents, using de-escalation techniques and restorative approaches.
Collaborative Planning: Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and therapists to implement behaviour support plans tailored to individual needs.
Positive Relationships: Build trusting relationships with students to encourage engagement, motivation, and self-esteem.
Monitoring Progress: Keep accurate records of behaviour incidents and progress, contributing to regular reviews and planning meetings.
Inclusive Environment: Promote a respectful and inclusive atmosphere where every student feels valued and supported.
Requirements for a Behaviour Support Assistant

We’re looking for compassionate, resilient individuals who are committed to making a difference. Ideal candidates will have:

Experience: Previous experience supporting children or young people with behavioural needs, ideally in an educational or care setting.
Empathy & Patience: A calm, understanding approach and a genuine desire to help others.
Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
Teamwork: A collaborative mindset and the ability to contribute positively to a team-focused environment.
Driving Licence: A valid UK driving licence and willingness to drive are desirable.
Qualifications: Relevant training or qualifications in behaviour support, education, or special needs are advantageous.
