Are you passionate about supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and making a meaningful difference in their educational journey?

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated and empathetic SEN Learning Mentor to join a nurturing and inclusive educational setting in Weymouth. This is a fantastic opportunity to support students with SEN, helping them overcome challenges and achieve their full potential in both academic and personal development.

About the Role

As a SEN Learning Mentor, you will play a key role in supporting students with a range of SEN needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges. You will work closely with teaching staff and other professionals to provide tailored mentoring, emotional support, and academic guidance in a supportive environment.

About the School:
The school encompasses two sites in Dorchester with one common shared purpose: to provide the very best in education and support for all children who (for a variety of reasons) find themselves outside of mainstream school education. The school is an alternative provision that uses vocational and extracurricular methods to enable the students to gain functional and life skills. With a primary and secondary division, the school is inclusive of all ages and abilities and strives to give its pupils the best possible opportunities for post 16 life.

Key Responsibilities of SEN Learning Mentor

Build strong, trusting relationships with students to support their emotional well-being and academic progress.
Deliver one-to-one and small group mentoring sessions tailored to individual SEN needs.
Collaborate with teachers and SENCOs to develop and implement personalised support strategies.
Encourage positive behaviour and social interaction, modelling appropriate conduct.
Monitor and record student progress, providing regular feedback to staff and parents.
Liaise with external professionals where necessary to ensure holistic support for students.
Requirements

Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN.
A genuine passion for supporting students with additional needs.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
A valid UK driving licence is desirable.
Relevant qualifications or training in education, youth work, or mentoring are advantageous.
Why Join Us?

Flexible Start Date: Begin immediately or in September—whichever suits you best.
Supportive Environment: Join a team that values your input and supports your professional growth.
Rewarding Role: Make a lasting impact on the lives of young people with SEN in your community.
Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks; including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.

As an ethical, inclusive, and independent recruitment agency, GSL Education are committed to providing quality teaching and supporting staff in schools across the UK.
