Senior Quantity Surveyor

Reports To

Commercial Manager / Commercial Director

Job Purpose

To manage the commercial and contractual aspects of construction projects, ensuring value for money, cost control, and effective risk management from pre-contract through to final account.

Key Responsibilities

* Manage project costs from tender stage through to final account

* Prepare and review cost plans, budgets, and forecasts

* Lead procurement of subcontractors and suppliers

* Administer contracts (e.g. JCT / NEC) including variations and change control

* Prepare, submit, and agree interim valuations and final accounts

* Assess and manage commercial risks and opportunities

* Manage and mentor junior QS staff where required

* Liaise with clients, consultants, and site teams to ensure commercial objectives are met

* Ensure compliance with company procedures and contractual obligations

* Support dispute resolution and commercial negotiations as needed

Skills & Experience

* Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor

* Strong knowledge of standard forms of contract (JCT, NEC, etc.)

* Excellent cost control, reporting, and forecasting skills

* Commercially aware with strong negotiation ability

* Experience managing subcontractor packages

* Confident communicator with the ability to lead meetings

* Good IT skills (Excel, commercial software, reporting tools)

Qualifications

* Degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management – Desirable
