Our client is an established main contractor that has been operating in London and the Southeast for over 15 years.
Located in East London, they deliver projects in the leisure, education, retail, healthcare, and housing sectors and have built a strong reputation for completing projects on time with maximum client satisfaction.
The work with both private and public sector clients and deliver a range of new build and refurbishment projects.
Project Sizes typically range between £500,000 & £7 million but they have delivered schemes of larger values.
PREVIOUS PROJECTS:
* Residential – 10+ new build flats, £2m+
* Leisure – Project for the council, pool, gym, reception, studio
* Residential – Social Housing Regeneration Scheme, £500k+
* Healthcare – East London GP Surgery
* Commercial – Full Fit out of a shop in a shopping centre
The Role
We’re looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Materials Buyer to join our commercial team. You’ll play a key role in the procurement of materials for our construction projects, ensuring we get the right products, at the right price, on time and in full.

Key Responsibilities
* Source and procure materials and plant in line with project requirements and company policies
* Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and negotiate competitive rates and terms
* Monitor supplier performance and manage delivery schedules to meet project timelines
* Work closely with project managers, site teams, and the commercial department to forecast material needs
* Ensure material quality meets specification and site standards
* Keep accurate records of orders, costs, and supplier communications
* Identify opportunities for cost savings and value engineering without compromising quality
* Stay informed of market trends, price fluctuations, and supply chain risks
About You
* Proven experience in a buying or procurement role within the construction industry
* Strong negotiation skills and commercial acumen
* Excellent organisational and communication abilities
* Knowledge of construction materials and supply chain dynamics
* Able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines under pressure
* Proficient in procurement software and MS Office tools
Desirable:
* Experience working on new build and refurbishment projects
* Familiarity with frameworks and public sector procurement requirements
* Relevant qualifications in procurement or construction management (e.g. CIPS, HNC/HND)
