Job Requirements of this Teaching Assistant job in Lichfield

We are seeking dedicated individuals to join a team at a special school catering to pupils aged 11-19, all of whom have an Education, Health, and Care (EHC) plan. The primary areas of need among the students are cognition and learning, and/or communication and interaction. Additionally, the pupils may have associated needs including visual impairment (VI), hearing impairment (HI), anxiety, social, emotional, and mental health difficulties (SEMH), as well as physical and sensory challenges. As a vital part of the team, successful candidates will contribute to the school's vision and values.

Collaborate with the school team to support teaching and learning activities.

Serve as a positive role model, embodying the ethos and values of the school.

Work under the direction of teachers to provide care, safety, and welfare for pupils, both in the classroom and wider school community.

Support individuals or groups during independent or group work, ensuring understanding, engagement, and motivation.

Offer occasional whole-class support for short periods.

Provide pastoral support to pupils and assist with personal and health-related needs, including first aid.

Implement specific work programmes designed by teachers, contributing to raising educational standards.

Contribute to the development and implementation of Individual Education/Behaviour/Support/Mentoring plans, risk assessments, and health and safety plans.

Attend to pupils' physical needs, including mobility, toileting, and medication administration.

Ensure pupils' safety and well-being through adherence to health and safety practices.

Accompany staff and pupils on visits, trips, and out-of-school activities as required.

Encourage pupil interaction and participation in teacher-led activities.

Support pupils in understanding and achieving their learning and behaviour objectives.

Maintain professional boundaries and model appropriate behaviours at all times.

Qualifications:

Qualification in Literacy and Numeracy equivalent to GCSE Grade 9 - 4 or Level 2 on the national vocational framework.

NVQ/VRQ Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification.

First Aid Qualification (Emergency First Aid) or willingness to complete.

Experience working as a Teaching Assistant with pupils in small groups or on a one-to-one basis in a school/classroom setting.

Experience supporting pupils with complex autism, alternative and augmentative communication strategies, and sensory regulation.

Basic ICT skills.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Adaptability to meet the diverse needs of pupils.

Ability to build positive relationships with children and adults.

Strong organizational and planning skills.

Experience with medication administration or willingness to learn.

Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Problem-solving skills and initiative.
