About the Company

Our client, based in Leeds, is a leading domestic retrofit installation company specialising in improving the energy efficiency and sustainability of homes. With a strong focus on quality, compliance, and safety, the organisation is committed to delivering retrofit projects that meet PAS 2035 standards — while ensuring the wellbeing of their people, customers, and the environment.

Role Overview

As SHE Manager, you will play a pivotal role in developing, implementing, and managing all aspects of Health, Safety, and Environmental (SHE) compliance across a range of domestic retrofit projects.

This position combines strategic leadership with hands-on operational management, providing expert advice and practical support to ensure a safe, compliant, and sustainability-focused working culture throughout the business.

While the role offers hybrid working, the successful candidate will be expected to make regular site visits — both planned and reactive — to support projects and maintain strong visibility across the organisation.

Sitting within the Senior Leadership Team, the SHE Manager will bring commercial awareness and a clear understanding of how effective SHE management enhances operational performance and strengthens client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

* Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s SHE management systems in line with legal, regulatory, and industry standards.

* Conduct regular site audits, inspections, and risk assessments to ensure safe working practices across all retrofit activities.

* Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis, ensuring effective corrective and preventive actions are taken.

* Deliver SHE training, toolbox talks, and ongoing guidance for site teams, contractors, and management.

* Drive environmental initiatives, including waste management, carbon reduction, and sustainability improvement projects.

* Monitor, analyse, and report SHE performance, producing accurate KPIs for senior leadership.

* Act as the organisation’s main point of contact with regulatory bodies (HSE, Environment Agency, local authorities).

* Foster and promote a positive health and safety culture across all levels of the business.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Essential - MUST HAVE!

* NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent).

* Proven experience managing SHE duties within social housing refurbishment or retrofit projects, acting as both Principal Contractor (PC) and Principal Designer (PD).

* Strong understanding of CDM Regulations and management of notifiable projects on domestic properties.

* Excellent communication, leadership, and influencing skills at all organisational levels.

* IEMA certification or equivalent environmental qualification.
