Your next role with Wilmott Group will see you taking on the role of Head of Transport working between our extremely busy and fast paced depot locations. This role, whilst challenging, should not be new to you as we ask for a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role. You will report into the Director of QHSE and will oversee all of the groups transport compliance.

You will be leading and managing all the groups transportation operations, including planning, execution, and oversight of all aspects of transportation. The role includes managing budgets, resources, staff, ensuring compliance with regulations, and improving efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Key responsibilities also encompass developing and implementing transportation strategies, improving accessibility, and addressing safety concerns.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

* Develop and execute transport strategies, plans, and schemes, including Local Transport Plans (LTPs) and other relevant initiatives.

* Team Management - Lead, motivate, and develop a team of transport professionals, including Transport Managers, drivers, planners, and other support staff.

* Operational Management - Oversee the day-to-day operations of the transportation department, ensuring efficient and timely delivery of goods or passengers.

* Budget Management - Manage and control the transport budget, including vehicle maintenance, fuel costs, and other related expenses.

* Compliance and Safety - Ensure compliance with all relevant transportation regulations, standards, and health & safety requirements.

* Performance Monitoring and Reporting - Track and analyse key performance indicators (KPIs), report on transport performance, and identify areas for improvement.

* Stakeholder Management - Communicate effectively with various stakeholders, including internal departments, external clients, and regulatory bodies.

* Continuous Improvement - Identify and implement improvements to transport processes, systems, and technologies to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.

* Vehicle Management - Oversee the maintenance, repair, and replacement of vehicles, including fleet management.

* Routing and Scheduling - Plan and optimise routes and schedules for transportation operations.

* Safety and Security - Ensure the safety and security of vehicles, passengers, and freight, including adherence to safety procedures and regulations.

* Consistent engagement through scheduled depot visits across the UK is essential

Skills:

* Strong leadership, team management, and communication skills are essential.

* Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills

* Exceptional planning, time management and organisational Skills

* Knowledge of Transportation Regulations and Standards

* Financial Acumen; understanding of budgets, costs, and financial management principles.

* Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders

* Proficiency in relevant software and systems, such as fleet management software and route optimisation tools.

Qualifications:

* Transport Manager CPC

* Degree in logistics or related field

* CPCS Appointed Person – Lifting (or be willing to undertake)

Person specification:

* Industry Experience in a management role

* Leadership and Team Management

* The ability to lead and motivate a team of drivers and support staff

* Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills

* Thorough and in depth knowledge of Transport Regulations including tachograph rules and working hours, legislation, vehicle regulations and safety requirements

* Competence in using relevant software, including transport management systems, GPS tracking, and communication platforms.

* Financially aware in understanding transport costs, budgeting, and managing expenses effectively

* Organisational Skills, having the ability to plan, organise, and manage complex transport operations efficiently
