The company is now recruiting for a Senior Design Engineer to take ownership of mechanical design and container integration for their systems. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the development of first-of-a-kind systems in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
Senior Design Engineer Responsibilities
Lead the mechanical design of modular hydrogen systems packaged into standard shipping containers, incorporating process units, pipework, valves, and instrumentation.
Create detailed 3D CAD models and part/assembly drawings using SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
Design custom components in a variety of materials (stainless steel, glass, ceramics), producing fabrication-ready specifications for suppliers.
Generate general arrangement drawings and BOMs; integrate supplier models into internal design workflows.
Conduct mechanical stress calculations to ensure structural integrity and safe operation.
Work closely with external suppliers and fabrication partners to ensure components meet technical and quality requirements.
Support prototype build and assembly, including preparation of clear work instructions for mechanical fitting.
Ensure compliance with UK and international standards, including safety and regulatory requirements.
Senior Design Engineer requirements
A degree in Mechanical or Design Engineering, or relevant professional experience.
Proven experience in an engineering design role, ideally within complex system environments.
Proficient in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, AutoCAD or equivalent).
Strong file management, drawing control, and documentation skills.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, development-stage company environment.
Desirable
Experience designing equipment for installation in shipping containers or compact spaces.
Knowledge of CE/UKCA compliance processes and documentation.
Experience working with flammable gases or in ATEX/Ex-rated environments.
Familiarity with solid particle conveyance systems in hazardous conditions.
Prior involvement in a start-up or early-stage product development setting
