Aspire People is seeking a dedicated 1:1 Support Staff Member to work closely with a Year 7 pupil in a secondary school in Kings Norton. This pupil has a background of deep trauma and abuse, and as a result, can present challenging and aggressive behaviours. The successful candidate will play a key role in providing a stable, safe, and consistent presence, supporting the young person both emotionally and academically.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide 1:1 support to a Year 7 student with complex emotional and behavioural needs
Implement trauma-informed approaches to build trust, emotional regulation, and routine
De-escalate aggressive behaviours safely and effectively using de-escalation techniques
Support the pupil in accessing learning within the classroom and in alternative settings as needed
Work closely with SENCOs, pastoral staff, and external professionals to ensure consistent care and safeguarding
Keep accurate daily records and contribute to reviews and reports on the pupil's progress
The Ideal Candidate:
Has prior experience working with children who have experienced trauma, abuse, or display challenging behaviour (e.g., in schools, PRUs, residential care, or youth services)
Is trained in Team Teach or other behaviour management approaches (preferred)
Has a calm, consistent, and compassionate approach to managing behaviours and building trust
Understands the impact of ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) and how to respond supportively
Can commit to a long-term placement and provide the continuity this young person needs
Requirements:
Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willing to apply for one through Aspire People)
References covering the last 2 years
Right to work in the UK
Relevant training or willingness to undergo CPD provided by Aspire People
