Financial Accountant

Key Responsibilities
* Produce timely and accurate monthly management accounts, providing valuable insights for decision-making.
* Lead and execute month-end and year-end close processes.
* Perform detailed account reconciliations and proactively resolve discrepancies.
* Support budgeting and forecasting activities, contributing to strategic planning.
* Ensure compliance with accounting regulations, tax laws, and internal controls.
* Assist in the preparation of year-end accounts and coordinate with external auditors.
* Complete quarterly VAT returns and other statutory filings.
* Administer and ensure compliance with the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS), including verifying subcontractors, processing CIS payments and deductions, and submitting monthly CIS returns to HMRC.
* Play an active role in continuous improvement initiatives across the finance function.
* Collaborate with colleagues across departments to support business growth and operational excellence.
Required Qualifications and Skills
* 5 years of experience in accounting or audit, ideally within a commercial environment.
* Strong understanding of accounting principles and their practical application.
* Working knowledge of the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS), or a willingness to develop expertise in this area.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Meticulous attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.
* Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
Desirable
* Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
* Professional accounting qualification (e.g., MAAT, ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
* Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Sage 200, SAP, Oracle).
* Knowledge of IFRS and UK accounting standards.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
* Proactive approach to process improvement and business development.
