Pembroke College, Oxford, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Finance Officer (Purchase Ledger) to join its friendly and professional Finance team on a part-time (60%/22.5 hours per week) basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounts professional to play a key role in supporting the College’s financial operations within a historic yet forward-looking academic community.
The Finance Officer is a key member of the Finance team, providing essential operational support for the College’s financial functions, with particular responsibility for the Purchase Ledger and general payments. Working closely with colleagues across Finance and the wider College, the postholder will ensure that financial transactions are processed efficiently, accurately, and in line with College policies and regulatory requirements.
This role will suit someone who is highly organised, accurate, and proactive, with a strong commitment to financial integrity and continuous improvement.
Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting systems are essential, as is previous experience in a finance or accounts administration role.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable and Purchase Ledger
* Process and verify purchase invoices, ensuring accuracy, correct coding, and compliance with procedures.
* Maintain supplier records and ensure all payments are properly authorised.
* Prepare and process regular payment runs, including BACS and other methods.
* Reconcile supplier statements and resolve queries promptly and professionally.
General Payments and Financial Administration
* Process sundry payments, including scholarships, refunds, and international payments.
* Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
* Support audit preparation, budgeting, and year‑end activities.
General Duties
* Contribute to effective teamwork and communication within the Finance team and across the College.
* Support the ongoing development of financial systems, processes, and controls.
* Maintain confidentiality and integrity of financial information.
