All about the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Children with Disabilities Social Care Service as a Social Care Child Practitioner. The Children with Disabilities Service works with children and young people aged 0-18 who have permanent and complex disabilities including learning disabilities, physical disabilities, sensory disabilities, autism and neurodiversity. We have 2 new posts in the service. The role will be to work directly with families and young people with disabilities in the family home and community.  You will be supporting parent/carers to develop their skills in developing routines, boundaries and managing behaviours that challenge. You will also be undertaking direct work with children and young people.  You will be working alongside qualified social workers and the Positive Behaviour Support Clinician to support the progress of social care and multi agency plans, including Child in Need Plans, Short Break and Early Intervention Plans, Child Protection Plans, Children in Care Plans, Positive Behaviour Plans and EHCPs.  

All about our Team

We have 2 Children with Disabilities Teams, who meet the statutory social care needs of children and young people with disabilities. Within the teams there are Social Workers and Team Support Workers. The 2 Teams work closely with each other to support the day to day business. The teams also sit alongside the Transition Team who work with young people with disabilities aged 18-25. A key part of the team's responsibilities is to prepare young people for adulthood. 

All about You

You will have experience of working with children and young people with disabilities whose behaviours challenge.

You will have experience of working with children and young people with autism and neurodiversity.

You will have experience of delivering parenting support.

You will have experience of working to plans within a multi-disciplinary system.
