Fitter / Tester – Mechanical (Hydraulics & Metrology)

£22.87 per hour PAYE (standard)
£26.19 per hour PAYE (double days)

Morson Edge are recruiting for Fitter / Testers to join a Military Assembly & Test environment based in Wolverhampton.
This role sits within a high-precision aftermarket value stream, focused primarily on mechanical assembly, hydraulics, and metrology, with some interaction with electrical systems as part of testing and fault diagnosis.
The Role
You will evaluate, assemble, and test mechanical units and sub-assemblies in line with technical drawings, manufacturing process plans, and acceptance test schedules. The work is hands-on, accuracy-driven, and carried out within a regulated, quality-focused manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Assemble and test mechanical units and sub-assemblies using approved techniques
Work to engineering drawings, process plans and test schedules
Carry out functional testing using calibrated test equipment and record results accurately
Apply metrology principles to ensure dimensional and build accuracy
Support hydraulic assembly, testing and fault diagnosis activities
Identify, report and support resolution of non-conformances
Participate in fault finding during assembly and test phases
Support stock control activities where required
Transport tools, materials and equipment safely
Take part in Lean events, workshops and continuous improvement initiatives
Adhere strictly to quality procedures and manufacturing standards
Essential Skills & Experience
NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Electro-Mechanical or Engineering discipline
Strong experience in mechanical assembly and testing within a precision manufacturing environment
Solid understanding of hydraulics and metrology
Experience working to drawings, process plans and quality documentation
Comfortable working in a regulated Aerospace / Defence environment
Desirable Experience
Apprentice trained or time-served background
Experience using crimp tools and basic wiring (as part of test activity)
Ability to read and interpret schematics (mechanical and electrical)
Knowledge of ESD and PCB handling (advantageous but not core)
Good PC skills and problem-solving ability
Calm, flexible and proactive approach in a fast-paced environment
