A specialist property consultancy based in London is seeking a Legal Officer - Credit Control to join their in-house legal team. This is a vital role providing legal support across credit control, litigation casework and client communication, helping ensure lease compliance and efficient debt recovery within the residential leasehold sector.
The Legal Officer - Credit Control will operate within a busy environment, supporting internal departments and liaising with external clients. With responsibility for managing litigation deadlines and ensuring compliance with Civil Procedure Rules, this is a position well-suited to someone organised, legally astute, and confident working independently. The Legal Officer - Credit Control will have access to a dedicated workstation and work closely with Property Managers and Estates Directors.
The Legal Officer - Credit Control's role
The Legal Officer - Credit Control will manage the critical litigation diary, ensuring no deadlines are missed and all legal documentation complies with regulatory requirements. The role will involve preparing and serving pre-action letters, issuing claims, drafting witness and case statements, and attending First-tier Tribunal and County Court hearings as required.
The Legal Officer - Credit Control will be responsible for keeping accurate case records, updating owners' rent ledgers, registering judgements, and ensuring legal invoices are correctly raised. There will be a key focus on supporting internal teams, maintaining ISO9001 file standards, and attending regular meetings with Property Managers to update on casework.
The Legal Officer - Credit Control
To be successful in this role, the Legal Officer - Credit Control should have:
A relevant legal qualification (e.g. Law degree, CILEX) or demonstrable legal drafting and casework experience.
Strong knowledge of County Court processes and Leasehold Valuation Tribunal procedures.
Understanding of leasehold management legislation and debt recovery protocols.
Experience in legal research using Companies House and Land Registry.
High attention to detail, problem-solving ability and excellent time management skills.
Strong communication and customer service skills.
