Job Description
Play a key role in delivering next-generation maritime defence software solutions. Join a high-impact programme focused on secure systems, software configuration, and mission-ready virtualised environments. You’ll bring hands-on expertise to scripting, patching, and secure deployment across Linux and Windows platforms.
This hybrid role puts you at the heart of critical defence delivery, working alongside a tight-knit engineering team to shape and support secure build environments. Be part of a nationally significant effort, helping to maintain the integrity of software across complex defence systems.
Location: Manchester
On-Site Requirement: Hybrid, 3 days per week minimum
Experience Level: 3+ years of Experience
Clearance: Must be eligible for SC Clearance
Key Responsibilities:
Support software configuration, packaging, and deployment tasks across critical defence platforms
Maintain and manage source control tools such as Git and Bitbucket
Contribute to automation using PowerShell, Bash, or Batch scripting
Apply patches, manage Group Policy, and improve system cybersecurity across Linux and Windows environments
Test deployments using virtual machines, with final delivery to physical secure hardware platforms
Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure compliance with security hardening standards and configuration quality processes
Qualifications
Required Skills:
Hands-on experience with SCCM (Mandatory), and Windows PowerShell, or Bash scripting
Experience using tools such as Bitbucket, Artifactory, JIRA, and Git
Awareness of certificate chain processes, and SElinux hardening practices
Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work proactively in a small teamRequired Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline
OR a relevant technical military background with equivalent hands-on engineering experience
Must be eligible for UK SC Security Clearance (See Below)Desirable Skills:
Exposure to quality and lifecycle tools
Experience implementing unit testing frameworks
Prior work on virtualised defence platforms and secure deployment pipelines
Familiarity with secure IT systemsSecurity Clearance Requirement
UKSV (United Kingdom Security Vetting) clearance is required for this role, with Security Check (SC) as the minimum standard, either already held or with a willingness to undergo the process.
Some roles/projects may require Developed Vetting (DV) clearance; while not mandatory, a willingness to obtain DV clearance would be beneficial.
