Transport Manager (Compliance-Focused)

£30,000 – £40,000 pro rata | 30–42 hours per week | Flexible working hours

We are looking for a highly detail-driven Transport Manager to take ownership of a small but busy fleet operation. This role is heavily compliance-focused and would suit someone who genuinely thrives on getting the details right — attention to detail is not just important here, it’s absolutely critical.

You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day compliance, safety, and legal operation of around 20 trucks and their drivers, ensuring everything is maintained, recorded, and audit-ready at all times.

Important: This role is not transport planning–led. There is no route or load planning involved unless you actively want to take that on. The core focus is compliance, safety, and record-keeping.

The Role

As Transport Manager, you will ensure the operation fully complies with Operator Licence requirements, DVSA standards, and Traffic Commissioner expectations. You’ll be the go-to person for all things transport compliance, keeping vehicles, drivers, and systems in line with regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Fleet & Vehicle Compliance

Ensure all vehicles and trailers are maintained in a safe and roadworthy condition

Manage PMI schedules, MOTs, plating, tachograph calibration, and defect rectification

Oversee daily walkaround checks and defect reporting

Liaise with maintenance providers and authorise repairs

Drivers & Compliance

Ensure drivers hold valid licences, CPC, and right-to-work documentation

Manage driver inductions, training, and ongoing compliance monitoring

Monitor infringements and support corrective actions

Promote a strong culture of safety and legal compliance

Drivers’ Hours & Tachographs

*

Ensure full compliance with Drivers’ Hours and Working Time Directive rules

*

Manage tachograph downloads, analysis, and record-keeping

*

Investigate breaches and maintain evidence of remedial actions

Operator Licence Management

*

Maintain full compliance with Operator Licence undertakings

*

Manage fleet size and operating centres in line with licence authority

*

Act as the main point of contact for DVSA and enforcement bodies

*

Support inspections, audits, and any regulatory reviews

Administration & Records

*

Maintain accurate, auditable records across all compliance areas

*

Ensure documentation is retained correctly and is inspection-ready at all times

Hours & Salary

*

Flexible working hours

*

This role could suit an experienced Transport Manager working around 5 hours per day

*

We are ideally looking for 30–42 hours per week

*

Salary up to £40,000 per year full-time, pro rata depending on hours worked
