We are looking to recruit an experienced Design Manager in the Lancashire region to work in conjunction with our Site Teams based across various sites predominately in the UU region. You will be responsible for managing the team of in house designers, assessing and advising on risk issues associated with design, buildability and compliance. You will ensure all technical deliverables are produced on time and to the satisfaction of the client/project manager and in line with engineering standards and best practice, including CDM and safety standards including leading all design team members internally and externally to achieve a favourable project outcome.
Your main duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
Develop and maintain the design deliverables plan in collaboration with the project delivery team including all technical upstream and downstream delivery requirements.
Management of commercial Design Forecast across the framework vs Tender allowances
Working alongside the Framework Manager, co-ordination of Internal Design team members and External Resources to meet the requirements of the Project / Programme requirements.
Supply chain management when developing the design including ensuring supplier tenders are checked for compliance and engineering correctness.
Development of scheme tender designs and management of estimating in the completion of a project estimate that includes robust pricing for the design activities.
Manage design inputs and outputs upstream including TQ register via the Lead Design Engineers
Liaise with clients to ensure design considerations are understood before decisions are made
Allocation of Lead Design Engineers and Design Engineers to individual projects
Manage Design Risk Register and update key technical risks as they arise.
Assist the planner in developing and keeping up to date the detailed design management project programmes across the Framework
About You
Aligned to our ethos and values, you will ideally have;
Good communication skills, being able to manage and drive a team
Significant experience of M&E or Civil Design and Build contracting in the Construction industry and/or significant experience in the water industry
Conversant with Common Data Environments (CDE) document management systems including Sharepoint or Projectwise.
Good knowledge and appreciation of BIM procedures and be capable and willing to advance these throughout the business
IT skills - Word, Excel, Power Point etc.
