Responsibilities and duties of the Lead Mechanical Project Engineer role
Reporting to Head of Engineering you will:
Lead the design, development, and implementation of engineering strategies for large-scale capital and CCGT lifetime extension projects.
Provide expert mechanical engineering oversight for all stages of project development and execution, including specification, tender evaluation, and commissioning.
Deliver robust technical support to operational sites, ensuring high standards of safety, reliability, and performance.
Oversee engineering quality assurance, including works witness testing and progress monitoring of contractors and OEMs
Support the planning and execution of major plant outages, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
Drive plant performance improvement initiatives across the fleet through data analysis and continuous improvement strategies.
Ensure compliance with all relevant HSSE legislation and promote a proactive safety culture across projects and operations.
Contribute to cost control by identifying budget efficiencies and supporting capital expenditure authorisations.
Manage engineering input into site investment decisions, ensuring strategic alignment and risk mitigation.
Provide leadership and technical mentorship to engineering teams, fostering a high-performance and development-focused environment.
Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:
· Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline (lower qualifications may be acceptable with substantial relevant experience).
· Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status or actively working toward accreditation.
· Proven experience in senior engineering roles, ideally within a CCGT power generation or comparable infrastructure environment.
· Demonstrated success in managing multi-disciplinary teams and engineering contractors on large capital projects.
· Strong track record in HSSE leadership and implementation of safety-critical systems and processes.
Personal skills
· Self-motivated and autonomous with a proactive problem-solving approach.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead, influence, and collaborate across functions.
· Flexible, resilient, and committed to delivering high standards in a dynamic, high-pressure environment.
