Contract: 6 months - Full-time, 37 hours per week

About the Role
We are seeking an Imports Coordinator to join the Imports & Duty Team, supporting the efficient and compliant importation of goods into the UK for the Birchwood operation. This is a key role ensuring customs processes are completed accurately and on time, avoiding delays, additional costs, or disruption to production schedules.
You will work closely with import agents, HMRC, suppliers, and internal stakeholders, using an integrated Duty Management System to manage import duties and VAT. The role requires strong attention to detail, excellent organisation, and the ability to respond promptly to time-critical requests.
Key Responsibilities
Operate the Duty Management System (Ricardo) in line with HMRC requirements
Raise and issue Import Instructions to customs agents, ensuring full compliance
Ensure all import entries are raised, completed, and filed accurately by due dates
Support Simplified Customs Declaration Procedures (SCDP)
Authorise and verify customs clearance agencies' use of deferment accounts and apportion costs internally
Prepare and submit monthly duty and tax returns to HMRC
Maintain accurate import records and master logs for audit and compliance purposes
Liaise with HMRC to ensure regulatory compliance and duty/tax avoidance where applicable
Communicate with suppliers, shipping lines, hauliers, and internal customers regarding goods movements
Process insurance claims under maritime insurance policies where required
Provide basic guidance on UK customs requirements to internal and external stakeholders
Proactively contribute to continuous improvement (LEAN) initiatives to enhance efficiency and duty recoverySkills & Experience - Essential
Experience working with ERP systems (e.g. SAP)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Previous experience within Supply Chain or Logistics
Good understanding of UK import formalities
Strong organisational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines
High attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent communication skills, with experience liaising with overseas suppliers and external agencies
Proven problem-solving and analytical abilities
A positive, customer-focused approach (internal and external)Desirable Skills & Experience
Experience using analytics tools (e.g. Tableau)
Understanding of LEAN principles
Previous experience using a Duty Management System
