We are seeking a Senior Controls Project Engineer to join a high-performing team driving the successful delivery of automated material handling projects. This role offers the opportunity to work across some of the UK's most advanced logistics and infrastructure systems.
If you're highly organised, technically sharp, and passionate about controls engineering, this hybrid opportunity combines office collaboration and flexible remote working to deliver the best of both worlds.
Key Responsibilities:
*
Review and advise on control solutions during the project sales phase, ensuring feasibility and compliance.
*
Translate as-sold concepts into efficient low-level controls (LLC) designs in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
*
Provide technical guidance to Project Leaders and Managers on multi-disciplinary issues and solutions.
*
Design, build, configure, and program control systems using standard methods and architecture.
*
Execute pre-commissioning activities, including I/O checks, motor run tests, and cabinet functionality.
*
Perform commissioning and testing, ensuring system functionality, capacity, and performance requirements are met.
*
Support and execute integration of LLC systems with third-party equipment and SCADA systems.
*
Develop and deliver documentation and test plans (FAT, SAT), ensuring alignment with broader project requirements.
*
Conduct in-house and on-site testing, including integration testing.
*
Create and maintain detailed project-level LLC planning.
*
Report engineering progress to project leadership.
What We’re Looking For:
*
Proficient in developing LLC code, ideally in Siemens S7 platforms.
*
Experience with SCADA systems such as WinCC or WebFactory.
*
Skilled in developing safety systems using platforms like Siemens S7-F, PILZ, or conventional systems.
*
Understanding of health and safety risk analysis at both component and system level.
*
Strong knowledge of material handling systems and automation workflows.
*
Familiarity with electrical components, control cabinets, and field wiring.
*
Experience with test strategies, risk analysis, and tools like Jenkins, Quality Centre, or emulation tools.
*
Knowledge of business process automation (HLC) and equipment such as DOTM, RAW, ICS, ASRS, or loops.
*
Ability to work in structured, methodical ways and communicate clearly with teams and stakeholders.
This is an exciting opportunity for a technically capable and detail-oriented engineer to step into a senior role, take ownership of control solutions, and contribute to high-impact projects across the logistics and automation sectors.
