School Business Manager
Location: Blackburn
Start Date: 16th March (with a 2-week handover with the current post holder)
Working Hours:
8:00am – 4:00pm
2 days per week initially in handover, increase to Monday–Friday for the right candidate as temporary to permanent
Bridge Education are delighted to be recruiting a School Business Manager for a lovely school in Blackburn. This is a key leadership role, responsible for the strategic and operational management of the school’s finance, HR and administrative functions.
Working closely with the Headteacher and Governing Body, the successful candidate will ensure effective systems are in place, statutory requirements are met, and the school achieves value for money. You will also line manage administrative and support staff and play an important role in the wider life and ethos of the school.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Strategic Support
Contribute to strategic planning through high-quality financial and operational advice
Attend finance and staffing committee meetings, preparing and presenting reports
Line manage administrative and support staff, including recruitment, induction, appraisal and developmentFinance
Prepare, monitor and review the annual budget with the Headteacher and Governors
Ensure compliance with local authority and school financial regulations
Monitor income and expenditure and advise on variances and future budget planning
Oversee procurement, ordering, invoicing, contracts and tendering
Maintain accurate financial records using school financial management systems
Manage banking, income collection, grants and asset registers
Advise governors on insurance provision and manage claims where requiredHuman Resources & Staffing
Manage staffing administration including contracts, starters, leavers and confidential records
Maintain and update HR and personnel systems
Oversee timesheets and payroll information for staff and supply teachers
Support attendance management and return-to-work processes
Liaise with external agencies to ensure pre-employment and safeguarding checks are completedHealth, Safety & Compliance
Support the Headteacher in ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation
Maintain records for fire safety, emergency procedures and statutory checks
Manage service contracts to ensure compliance and value for money
Support risk assessments to minimise financial and operational riskAdministration & Systems
Lead the school’s administrative function, including reception services and office systems
Manage administrative ICT and management information systems
Ensure statutory returns and documentation are accurate and submitted on time
Oversee school records, licences, permissions and publicationsGeneral Responsibilities
Uphold policies relating to safeguarding, confidentiality, data protection and equality
Contribute positively to the ethos and values of the school
Build effective working relationships with governors, local authority officers and external partners
