Our client, a key player in the Defence & Security sector, is currently seeking a talented Manufacturing Engineer to join their Operations team in Sunbury on Thames, SRY. This is a permanent role within the Air Technology business unit, aimed at providing manufacturing engineering expertise to support both existing and new products, and to drive forward strategic Lean initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with manufacturing cell leaders, the lean co-ordinator, and design engineering to enhance process efficiencies
Generate and maintain manufacturing documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Routings, and Visual Factory displays
Create and maintain routings within the MRP system
Implement lean manufacturing methods such as one-piece flow lines and visual factory to reduce rework/scrap, throughput times, and work in progress
Utilise basic improvement tools such as 5S, 7 Wastes, Visual Management, and Standardised Work to support balanced assembly lines
Support layout changes and involve facilities and maintenance teams in the process
Record and analyse production data to focus on key issues and support manufacturing cells
Initiate and lead improvement projects and capital expenditure (CAPEX) to facilitate new process and product introductions
Work with Engineering on product documentation modifications and parts obsolescence
Provide day-to-day manufacturing engineering support to ensure customer schedule adherence
Lead teams to develop process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and implement changes
Manage new product introductions and legacy product manufacturing through all stages of the product life cycle
Mentor cell leaders to enhance methods of manufacturing assembly and testing
Job Requirements:
Proven experience in a similar manufacturing engineering role
Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) and implementing standard work processes
Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and substantial experience in an electro-mechanical manufacturing environment
Proficient in problem-solving techniques, including 5 Whys, Fishbone/Ishikawa diagrams, and 8D analysis
Proven track record of generating and maintaining process maps, PFMEAs, and control plans
Excellent time management skills with a history of planning and managing complex, long-term projects
Significant IT skills including Microsoft Office suite
Experience in the aerospace manufacturing or a closely related industry
Methodical, logical approach with strong attention to detail and a results-oriented mindset
Team player with the ability to work in a concurrent engineering team
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
Ability to present and communicate effectively to small groups
Self-motivated individual with strong leadership qualities and the ability to handle pressure
Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and process control techniques
