Cover Supervisor / Youth Worker | Secondary School | Blackpool
Location: Blackpool, Lancashire (FY1 / FY2 / FY3 / FY4) Salary: £23,000 - £28,500 per annum (Pro-rata / Term-Time Only) Contract: Full-Time, Permanent or Long-Term Contract Start Date: ASAP or September 2026
The Role: Mentorship in the Classroom
Are you a Youth Worker, sports coach, or recent graduate looking to make a real impact in Blackpool? We are seeking a dynamic Cover Supervisor who can bring the energy of youth work into a secondary school environment.
This isn't just "babysitting" a class. You will be the relatable role model who steps in when teachers are absent, ensuring students stay on track with their learning while managing the classroom with a firm but fair youth-work approach.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Management: Lead secondary classes (KS3/KS4) using pre-set work, focusing on engagement and positive behavior.
Youth Mentorship: Use your Youth Worker skills to de-escalate conflict and build rapport with "hard to reach" students in Blackpool.
Academic Support: Assist pupils with their tasks, ensuring a productive learning environment.
School Community: Act as a bridge between the pastoral team and the classroom, supporting the social and emotional needs of our pupils.
What We Are Looking For
We value character and life experience over formal teaching qualifications.
Experience: Previous work with 11-16-year-olds (Youth clubs, sports coaching, scouts, or residential care) is highly desirable.
Confidence: The ability to stand in front of a class of 30 teenagers and command respect through personality and empathy.
Resilience: A "can-do" Blackpool attitude and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
Education: A Degree is a bonus, but a strong background in Youth Work or behaviour management is the priority.
Why Join Our Blackpool Secondary Team?
Pathway to Teaching: This is the ultimate "foot in the door" for anyone considering a future in education or social work.
Term-Time Only: Enjoy all the school holidays (13 weeks a year!) while making a full-time impact.
Supportive Environment: You won't be thrown in the deep end; we provide full behaviour management training and a dedicated mentor.
Local Impact: Help raise the aspirations of young people right here in the Blackpool community.
