SEMH Teaching Assistant – KS3 Pupil Support

Location: Blackpool
Start Date: April - after the Easter half-term
Contract: Full-time (due to additional funding)

Are you passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs?
A supportive secondary school in Blackpool is seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a KS3 pupil following the allocation of additional funding. This role will begin after the Easter half-term.

About the Role

You will work closely with a KS3 student who requires tailored SEMH support to help them engage positively with learning and school life. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in promoting emotional regulation, building confidence, and helping the pupil access the curriculum.

Key Responsibilities

Provide consistent 1:1 support to a KS3 pupil with SEMH needs.
Implement strategies to support emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
Work closely with teaching staff, SENCO, and external agencies where required.
Assist with creating a safe, nurturing, and structured environment for learning.
Support the pupil both in and out of the classroom, ensuring their wellbeing and engagement.
Contribute to personalised learning plans and progress reviews.

Essential Requirements

Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs.
Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils.
Patience, resilience, and a calm, supportive approach.
Understanding of behaviour support strategies.
Ability to work collaboratively within a school team.

Desirable

Experience in a secondary school environment.
Knowledge of de-escalation strategies or relevant training (Team Teach, MAPA, etc.).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
