Senior Structural Engineer – Croydon (Design Office – South London) Sector: Substations & Infrastructure
Type: Full-time | Permanent
Location: South London
?️ About the Role We're on the hunt for a technically sharp and solutions-driven Senior Structural Engineer with a flair for infrastructure and substation projects. Based in our buzzing Croydon design office (yes, with actual heating and decent coffee), you’ll be leading complex structural designs and guiding a crack team of engineers on projects that literally keep the lights on.
? What You’ll Be Doing
Lead and manage structural design for substation and infrastructure schemes (new builds, extensions, reinforcements, and asset replacements).
Develop and review calculations, technical drawings, and design packages in line with National Grid / DNO standards.
Liaise with multidisciplinary teams – civils, M&E, project managers, and clients – to deliver safe, buildable, and cost-effective designs.
Oversee junior engineers and offer mentorship where needed (bring wisdom, but leave the grumpy-old-man vibes at home).
Conduct site visits, inspections, and provide structural solutions during construction phases.
Drive innovation in design – we love an engineer who challenges “the way it’s always been done.”✅ What You’ll Bring
Chartered or near-chartered status (ICE/IStructE).
Strong experience in structural design, ideally for substations, transformer bays, cable trenches, and gantries.
Mastery of Eurocodes, British Standards, and industry software like Tekla Structural Designer, Staad.Pro, or similar.
Ability to juggle multiple projects without turning into a structural stress diagram yourself.
A sharp communicator who can simplify complex concepts (bonus points if you’ve ever explained reinforcement detailing using biscuits).? Perks & Culture
Competitive salary with progression opportunities.
Work-life balance (we don’t believe in “late is great”).
Hybrid working options after probation.
A forward-thinking team that values fresh ideas, straight-talking, and solid execution
