SEN Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant (SEMH)
Location: Havering, London
Pay: £85–£100 per day
Contract: Full-time, temporary
Start: ASAP

Are you a resilient, energetic SEN professional who thrives in hands-on, active environments? This is an exciting opportunity to join a fantastic primary setting in Havering with excellent facilities, a supportive team and a truly child-centred approach.

We are seeking a Learning Support Assistant to work 1:1 (within a 2:1 structure) with a bright and capable Year 1 pupil with SEMH needs. The focus of this role is not academics, but emotional regulation, wellbeing, safety and rebuilding a positive relationship with school.

The Role

You will support the pupil on a bespoke, reduced timetable, delivering learning through:

• Play-based and physical activities

• Outdoor learning, forest school, sand pits and mud kitchens

• Sensory circuits, “Now & Next” systems and choice boards

• Creative activities such as baking (e.g. maths through cooking)

You’ll help manage dysregulation, ensure safety, and encourage engagement using calm, consistent strategies. Physical intervention may be required, and Team Teach training is either preferred or will be provided.

Ideal Candidate

• Experienced in SEMH and behaviour support

• Confident, proactive and physically active

• Comfortable working outdoors and getting stuck in

• Calm under pressure, not passive or meek

• A strong role model (sporty, hands-on personalities encouraged)

Why Apply?

• Supportive leadership and excellent facilities

• Clear priorities and realistic success measures

• A genuinely rewarding role where progress truly matters
