Are you an experienced Senior Engineer with a strong background in earthworks, drainage and associated civils up to sub-base? Do you want to work on a major infrastructure programme, delivering high-quality results within a collaborative team environment?

I am recruiting on behalf of a civils subcontractor, who are currently delivering civil engineering works on a highways for a large Main Contractor. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on Senior Engineer to join the scheme on a freelance basis.

About the Role
As the Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for the on-site technical delivery and coordination of earthworks, drainage and associated civils activities up to sub-base level. You will work closely with site management, contractors and project stakeholders to ensure safe, compliant and efficient execution of works.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead and supervise earthworks, drainage and civils up to sub-base.
• Plan, programme and coordinate daily activities to align with project objectives.
• Provide technical direction and engineering support to operatives and subcontractors.
• Monitor quality control and assurance in accordance with design and company standards.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations.
• Report progress and technical challenges to Project/Contracts Manager.
• Assist in risk management, method statements and site documentation.

Skills & Experience
• Proven experience as Senior Engineer on large highways projects
• Strong expertise in earthworks, drainage systems and civils up to sub-base.
• Excellent knowledge of UK civil engineering specifications, standards and best practices.
• Demonstrable experience with site supervision and technical problem-solving.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• CSCS/SMSTS or equivalent site safety qualifications (desirable).
• Valid drivers license.
