Bank Casual Shifts

£12.50 to £13.50 per hour

We are recruiting a Domestic Abuse Support Worker to work on a bank basis within a refuge service in Bury. The service provides safe accommodation and specialist support to women, men and children affected by domestic abuse, including those with additional needs such as mental health or substance misuse.

This is a frontline role within a busy refuge environment, requiring compassion, resilience and sound judgement.

The Role

You will act as a key point of contact within the refuge, supporting residents from admission through to move on, ensuring safety, dignity and empowerment throughout their stay.

Key responsibilities include
• Acting as first point of contact for refuge enquiries and referrals
• Supporting safe admissions into emergency accommodation
• Providing practical and emotional support to adult survivors and children
• Maintaining a safe and secure environment, including building security checks
• Completing health and safety checks and room preparations
• Writing detailed handovers and maintaining accurate case notes
• Responding appropriately to disclosures, incidents and safeguarding concerns
• Supporting residents with housing related matters and practical daily needs
• Coordinating donations, supplies and essential items
• Liaising with police, social services, housing providers and other partner agencies
• Working in line with safeguarding, confidentiality and data protection requirements

Requirements

To be considered, you must have
• Experience working in a support, housing or care environment
• Experience of lone working and managing responsibilities independently
• Ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism and confidentiality
• Experience logging incidents and maintaining accurate records
• Understanding of safeguarding procedures for adults and children
• Ability to remain calm and manage crisis situations appropriately
• Strong communication skills and a non judgemental approach
• Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one

Desirable
• Experience supporting individuals affected by domestic abuse
• Knowledge of trauma informed practice
• Understanding of housing rights and safeguarding legislation
• Experience liaising with external agencies
