Indirect Tax Manager (UK & EU)
Hybrid – London based
Permanent, full-time
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Indirect Tax Manager to join a global organisation that owns and manages a portfolio of well known retail and consumer brands.
This is a key role within the finance function, responsible for leading VAT compliance, indirect tax governance, and process improvement across the UK and EU.
You’ll be the business’s go-to expert for VAT and indirect tax, ensuring full compliance, improving systems, and helping shape a forward-thinking tax strategy that supports commercial growth.
Main Responsibilities

Manage all aspects of UK and EU VAT compliance, including VAT returns, reconciliations, EC Sales Lists, and Intrastat submissions.

Develop and deliver the VAT and Indirect Tax strategy, aligning it with wider business goals.
*
Ensure compliance with Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements and maintain audit readiness.
*
Provide technical VAT & Indirect Tax advice to senior stakeholders on supply chain, cross-border goods transactions, and new business initiatives.
*
Improve tax processes and data integrity using tooldsuch as SAP, Power BI, and other tax automation tools.
*
Strengthen VAT controls, documentation, and risk management procedures.
*
Manage relationships with HMRC, external tax advisors, and auditors.
*
Partner with Finance, IT, and Operations to enhance system efficiency and VAT data accuracy.

Support on customs and excise considerations
*
Coach and support a junior team member, helping to build indirect tax capability across the wider finance community.
Key Skills & Experience
*
Qualified accountant or tax professional (CTA, ACA, ACCA, or equivalent).
*
Extensive indirect tax experience, with a strong emphasis on UK and EU VAT compliance and strategy.
*
Proven background within retail, consumer goods, FMCG, or other large multinational environments.
*
Strong exposure to tax automation and data analytics tools (e.g. Power BI, SAP tax engines, or equivalent) would be an advantage
*
Experience implementing or improving VAT automation or digital reporting processes.
*
Excellent stakeholder management skills – able to communicate complex VAT concepts clearly and commercially.
*
Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail.

Understanding of customs and excise for cross border good
