Working pattern:
You will be expected to be in the office at least 3 days a week or more if business requires it.
You will be required to work flexibly including some evenings, weekends, and occasional public holidays in order to meet service requirements, and in order to ensure appropriate representation of the
Council with residents, the Mayor and elected members, and external bodies.
Job Description:
This is a senior leadership role in the office of Mayor Rokhsana Fiaz OBE, Directly Elected Mayor of the London Borough of Newham.
The role will lead and manage all core support functions for the Mayor while we implement a new structure and way of working for the Mayor’s Office.
The successful post holder will join a fast paced office and have an active leadership role in managing and developing the team and ensuring the provision of high quality support to the Mayor and her Cabinet.
Key outputs will include:
Ensuring all strategic and administration support processes are operating effectively and efficiently and introducing improvements where required.
Working closely with the Mayor’s Interim Senior Strategic Advisor to provide leadership to the office, leading by example in the creation of a dynamic, collaborative and delivery focused team culture.
To build strong operational relationships with key teams across the council to support the effective delivery of the Mayor’s Office functions.
Skills and experience:
Experience of working with senior elected politicians, politically astute, demonstrating tact and diplomacy in handling sensitive or high-profile issues, and able to gain trust and confidence through your actions.
Experience of managing yourself and your team to effectively manage high volumes of work, delivering to high standards, managing competing and shifting priorities at pace, able to anticipate and mitigate problems and resolve complex issues.
Experience of working in local government or an excellent understanding of the issues facing local government in London, an understanding of the Directly Elected Mayoral model, and the relationship between elected members and officials, and working with senior elected members and senior officers to deliver results and the Mayor’s priorities.
