Business Development Manager
Salary: £47,500 - £58,500 + Benefits
Hours: 37.5 per week, flexible working (no weekends)
Location: Hybrid (1 day per week in office - Stoke-on-Trent or Glasgow)
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Business Development Manager to join a leading organisation within the water retail sector. This hybrid role offers a blend of autonomy and support, ideal for someone looking to take ownership of their portfolio and truly make an impact.
As Business Development Manager, you'll be responsible for managing the entire sales cycle - from identifying and converting new business opportunities, through to long-term account development and broker relationship management. Working closely with key stakeholders both internally and externally, you'll support strategic business goals while growing your own revenue stream.
This role suits a self-motivated professional who enjoys building a pipeline from scratch, thrives in a target-driven environment, and brings sector knowledge or transferable B2B experience.
Key Responsibilities as Business Development Manager:
Build and manage your own portfolio of business accounts and sales pipeline.
Generate and qualify leads, negotiate deals, and secure new business opportunities.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and commercial customers across the UK.
Attend face-to-face and virtual meetings, trade events, and networking forums as an ambassador for the business.
Collate and share market intelligence to shape sales strategies and drive competitive advantage.
Lead the development of contractual agreements and oversee a smooth handover of newly acquired accounts.
Accurately maintain CRM records and ensure all sales activity is tracked and reported.
Ensure all interactions meet internal governance, quality, compliance, and regulatory standards.
Ideal Candidate Profile for a Business Development Manager:
3-5 years' experience in a B2B sales, business development or account management role - ideally in the utilities, energy, telecoms, or water sector.
Strong negotiation and commercial acumen with a proven record of meeting/exceeding targets.
Skilled communicator - confident, articulate, and credible with both internal teams and external clients.
Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple opportunities and stakeholders.
Driven, proactive, and solutions-focused with a flexible and positive 'can-do' attitude.
Comfortable working independently and managing time effectively in a hybrid role.
Located within commuting distance of either Stoke-on-Trent or Glasgow office.
Must hold a full UK driving licence and be open to travel across the UK as required.
Familiarity with Mecoms platform.
