Role Profile: Accounts Assistant
Summary:
The Accounts Assistant will support the finance function by maintaining accurate records of fixed assets, assisting with reconciliations, and contributing to month-end and year-end processes. This role will involve close collaboration with other departments to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance.

Reporting Lines:
You will report into the Management Accountant
Accounts Assistant Role and Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:
* Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset register.
* Assist with weekly/monthly payment runs for plant purchases.
* Reconcile bank and supplier statements, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
* Raise invoices for asset disposals and confirm payment receipt via bank postings.
* Provide fixed asset-related documentation to support annual audits.
* Monitor capital expenditure and ensure correct classification of assets.
* Assist the Financial Accountant with physical asset verification and audits.
* Support month-end and year-end closing activities.
* Assist in variance analysis comparing actual results to budget and forecast.
* Reconcile purchase orders, deliveries, and prepare exports and asset sale summaries.
* Collaborate with departments to collect financial data and support reporting needs.
* Perform other ad hoc financial analysis as required.
Qualifications & Experience:
* 1–2 years' experience in finance, accounting, or asset management (preferred).
* Part-qualified (CIMA, ACCA, CPA, AAT) – desirable.
* Understanding of asset accounting, including impact on balance sheet and P&L.
* Knowledge of the plant hire industry and hire management systems (e.g., Syrinx, Access Dimensions) – advantageous.
* ·Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) – desirable.
* Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, PivotTables, and other advanced functions).
Key Skills:
* Strong analytical and numerical skills with attention to detail.
* Good interpersonal and communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
* Ability to multitask, manage priorities, and meet deadlines.
* Understanding of accounting standards and regulatory compliance.
* Collaborative team player with a proactive attitude.
Working Conditions:
* Office based. – Hemel Hempstead.
