Role Overview
We are recruiting an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Supervisor to support and lead EHS programmes at a regulated manufacturing site in Durham.
This is a hands-on role combining site presence with strategic influence. You’ll work closely with plant leadership and central EHS functions to ensure regulatory compliance, drive continuous improvement, and embed a strong, proactive safety culture across the site.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide visible, hands-on EHS leadership through regular site presence, inspections, audits, and reviews
* Ensure full compliance with UK environmental, health, and safety legislation
* Lead and maintain site EHS management systems, including ISO 14001 certification
* Develop and implement site-specific EHS strategies, objectives, and KPIs
* Deliver engaging EHS training for employees, contractors, and leadership teams
* Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
* Manage environmental permits, water discharge consents, and regulatory reporting
* Oversee waste management programs (hazardous and non-hazardous) and contractor compliance
* Drive a proactive EHS culture through coaching, engagement, and continuous improvement initiatives
* Monitor performance trends and recommend actions to reduce risk and improve compliance
Required Qualifications & Experience
* Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Management, Safety, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline
* 5–10 years’ experience in an EHS, QHSE, or safety role within a manufacturing or industrial environment
* Strong working knowledge of UK environmental and safety regulations (air, water, waste)
* Proven experience delivering EHS training and influencing operational teams
* Fluent English (spoken and written)
Preferred Skills & Certifications
* Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
* Professional health & safety or environmental certification
* Experience maintaining ISO management systems
* Understanding of industrial processes and process safety
* Strong data analysis, reporting, and auditing skills
* WAMITAB certification (advantageous, not essential)
