PE Instructor - SEMH Alternative Provision - Farnborough
Prospero Teaching is seeking an enthusiastic and resilient PE Instructor to join a specialist Alternative Provision in the Farnborough area. The setting supports young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and provides a structured, nurturing environment designed to help pupils re-engage with learning and develop essential life skills.
The provision is looking for someone who can use sport, physical activity, and positive role-modelling to motivate students, build trust, and promote emotional regulation. This is a temp-to-perm role, with the intention that the successful candidate becomes a permanent member of the team in July, providing stability and consistency for pupils.
The Role:
· Lead PE sessions and physical activities tailored to SEMH learners
· Promote teamwork, confidence, resilience, and healthy lifestyle habits
· Build positive, trusting relationships with students
· Use trauma-informed and restorative behaviour strategies
· Support learners during PE lessons and across the wider school day
· Work closely with pastoral, behaviour, and senior leadership teams
· Be a calm, encouraging, and reliable presence for pupils
Ideal Candidate:
· Background in sport, coaching, youth work, mentoring, or PE instruction
· An ideal role for fitness instructors, sports graduates, and anyone with a passion, interest, or background in sporting environments who wants to make a meaningful impact
· Able to inspire and engage pupils through movement and activity
· Strong behaviour management and emotional resilience
· Calm, patient, and able to build trust with pupils who need consistency
· QTS not required - attitude, presence, and commitment are key
· Looking for a long-term temp-to-perm role, becoming permanent in July
Contract Details:
· Position: PE Instructor / Sports Mentor
· Location: Farnborough
· Start Date: ASAP
· Pay: £125-£160 per day
· Contract Type: Full-time, Temp-to-Perm
· Permanent Start: July (subject to performance)
· Setting: SEMH Alternative Provision
Experience, Training & Safeguarding:
· SEMH, youth work, sports coaching, or alternative provision experience beneficial
· Up-to-date safeguarding training (can be provided)
· Confident using de-escalation and restorative approaches
Eligibility:
· Right to work in the UK
· Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
· Able to provide two references related to work with young people
