Senior Mechanical Engineer
Location: Newcastle Upon Tyne
Type: Full-time, Permanent - Hybrid Working Available
Jackson Hogg is delighted to be recruiting for a talented and driven Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a multidisciplinary engineering team developing advanced mechanical systems for the marine, offshore, and defence sectors.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys tackling complex technical challenges, leading design and system integration projects, and contributing innovative ideas across the full engineering lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities

Lead the design, development, and delivery of mechanical and electromechanical systems from concept through manufacturing, testing, and in-service support.

Translate customer requirements into robust engineering solutions, ensuring compliance with technical, cost, and schedule objectives.

Create 3D/2D designs, calculations, and technical documentation using tools such as AutoCAD, Creo, or Autodesk Inventor, and conduct structural/mechanical assessments including hand calculations and FEA.
*
Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams (electrical, hydraulic, control, structural) to deliver integrated system solutions and support tendering/business development with design visuals, performance data, and technical input.

Manage supplier interfaces, approve technical deliverables, witness factory acceptance tests, and participate in design reviews, client meetings, and technical presentations.

Drive R&D and continuous improvement initiatives, prepare and review technical specifications, test procedures, manuals, and provide mentoring and guidance to junior engineers.
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent technical discipline).
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards professional registration.
* Proven experience delivering complex mechanical or electro-mechanical systems, ideally in marine, offshore, or heavy engineering environments.
* Strong proficiency in 3D CAD and engineering analysis tools (AutoCAD, Creo, Inventor, FEA).
* Familiarity with mechanical, structural, hydraulic, electrical, and control systems integration.
* Experience producing detailed engineering documentation in a controlled design environment.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence presenting to clients and stakeholders.
* Strong project ownership, organisational skills, and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
