SEMH Teaching Assistant

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a skilled and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist education setting supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This role is ideal for an experienced professional who brings strong behaviour management, emotional intelligence, and a calm, consistent approach to supporting young people who may present with challenging behaviour.
The Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:

Provide targeted 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs
*
Implement effective behaviour management strategies aligned with individual behaviour plans
*
Support pupils to regulate emotions, develop social skills, and re-engage with learning
*
Work closely with teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals
*
Create a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment
*
Act as a positive role model, maintaining clear boundaries and high expectations
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:

Has proven experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs
*
Demonstrates excellent behaviour management skills
*
Remains calm, patient, and consistent under pressure
*
Understands trauma-informed practice and de-escalation strategies
*
Can build strong, trusting relationships with pupils
*
Is resilient, proactive, and committed to making a meaningful difference
Experience within alternative provision, PRUs, specialist settings, or similar environments is highly desirable.
