We’re working with an established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy that’s expanding its Electrical Design team in Manchester. Due to a growing portfolio of high-profile projects, they are seeking an experienced Associate-level Electrical Designer to join their team.
Salary: £60,000–£80,000 + Performance Bonus
Sector: Building Services / MEP Design Consultancy
Employment Type: Full‑Time, Hybrid with Manchester Office presence
I’m partnering with a leading global engineering and design consultancy that is growing its Mechanical Engineering leadership capability in Manchester. They are seeking an Associate‑level Mechanical Designer, a role that goes well beyond delivery, combining technical authority, project leadership, and client influence.
This is a design‑and‑strategy‑centric role, embedded in a multidisciplinary engineering environment where mechanical building services are conceived as critical systems that shape occupant comfort, health, energy performance and environmental impact. You’ll be working with teams who don’t just produce drawings, they engineer solutions that enable sustainable, resilient, and high‑performance buildings.
What You’ll Lead & Deliver
* Lead mechanical building services design from concept through detailed design, covering HVAC, ventilation, thermal comfort, water systems, fire and smoke control, and building automation systems.
* Shape strategies that optimise indoor environments and minimise energy use through early‑stage intervention and coordination with building physics, architecture and sustainability teams.
* Drive technical quality and innovation across projects, ensuring mechanical designs are fit for performance, compliance, resilience and end‑use wellbeing.
* Collaborate with other disciplines, electrical, public health, structural, facade and digital delivery teams, to achieve fully integrated engineering solutions.
* Mentor and develop junior engineers, uplifting standards and shaping a shared engineering mindset.
* Support business development through client engagement, thought leadership and proposal development, helping grow the mechanical practice’s footprint in the UK market.
Who You Are
* A seasoned Mechanical Building Services Designer with established consultancy experience.
* Technically authoritative with deep understanding of UK standards, regulations and holistic HVAC/thermal systems design.
* Comfortable owning complex mechanical design packages, influencing project strategy, and guiding multidisciplinary delivery teams.
* A confident communicator with experience in client presentations, workshops and business development activities.
* Proficient with Revit/BIM and digital delivery tools, and keen to champion coordinated, data‑driven design.
Why This Role Is Unique
This isn’t a traditional “design then forget” position. You will:
* Influence building performance early, aligning mechanical systems with user wellbeing and operational efficiency.
* Be part of a team that combines global expertise with local delivery capability, backed by a foundation that emphasises long‑term thinking and sustainability.
* Join an organisation with multi‑disciplinary strength, from building physics and digital engineering to environment and architecture — enabling truly integrated solutions.
* Work on technically ambitious, high‑profile projects where mechanical design is a core value driver, not an afterthought.
What’s on Offer
* Competitive salary £60,000–£80,000 + performance bonus.
* Hybrid working and flexible hours.
* A leadership role where your influence is recognised and rewarded.
* A platform to grow your career as part of a high‑performing, globally connected engineering team.
If you’re an experienced Mechanical Designer ready to step into an Associate‑level leadership role where strategic thinking meets technical excellence, I’d be happy to speak in confidence
