Graduate Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant

Pay Scale: £90-100 a day

Are you a recent graduate looking to gain hands-on experience supporting young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs? Thinking about a future career in educational psychology, teaching, mental health, or social care?

Teaching Personnel is recruiting a Graduate Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to work in a secondary school in Gateshead. This is an excellent opportunity to build meaningful experience working with pupils who have experienced trauma, anxiety, attachment difficulties and emotional regulation challenges.

The school offers a calm, structured and nurturing environment, grounded in trauma-informed practice and strong pastoral support. You’ll be supported by experienced staff while developing practical skills that are highly valued in education and mental health settings.

What you’ll gain from this role:

Your day-to-day role will include:

Supporting pupils 1:1 and in small groups

Helping young people manage emotions and behaviour positively

Using calm, consistent strategies to support regulation and engagement

Building trusting relationships with pupils

Supporting learning and classroom participation

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
