Service Care Legal are seeking a skilled and motivated Housing Litigation Lawyer to join their legal department on a locum basis. This role offers the opportunity to handle a diverse and challenging caseload within a supportive local authority environment.
ROLE: Housing Litigation Lawyer
LOCATION East London
RATE: £40–£45ph (umbrella) / £39.76ph PAYE inc. holiday pay / £35.48ph exc. holiday pay
CONTRACT 36 hours per week, 3 month ongoing contract
You will focus on one or more of the following key areas:
Complex possession proceedings
Housing Judicial Reviews
Access cases
Anti-Social Behaviour Injunctions
Key Responsibilities
Manage and progress a caseload of litigation matters, ensuring cases are handled efficiently and to a high standard.
Provide expert legal advice to internal departments and stakeholders on housing and public law litigation issues.
Represent the Council in court and at tribunals where required.
Draft, review, and prepare legal documentation including pleadings, injunctions, and judicial review responses.
Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure best practice and high-quality service delivery.
About You
Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive.
Minimum of 3 years’ post-qualification experience (PQE).
Demonstrable experience in at least one of the following areas: complex possession, housing judicial review, access, or anti-social behaviour injunctions.
Strong advocacy, drafting, and negotiation skills.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage a demanding caseload.
Previous local authority experience is desirable but not essential.
