About the Role:
Are you an experienced Bookkeeper with a passion for precision and client care?
This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established, independent accountancy firm based in Berwick-upon-Tweed. With a reputation for excellence, our client supports a broad portfolio across commercial and agricultural sectors.
The successful candidate will bring strong VAT knowledge, experience using cloud-based systems like Xero, and the confidence to liaise directly with clients—especially supporting them in setup and training. This role also offers the opportunity to mentor junior team members and contribute to the firm’s commitment to developing talent.
Key Responsibilities:

VAT Compliance & Returns: Prepare and submit accurate VAT returns in line with HMRC regulations.

Bookkeeping & Accounts Management: Maintain records, process invoices, and manage client ledgers.
*
Bank Reconciliations: Ensure financial accuracy through regular reconciliations.
*
Financial Reporting: Produce management accounts, profit & loss statements, and balance sheets.
*
Client Support & Training: Assist clients with cloud software setup and deliver tailored training sessions.
*
Liaison with HMRC: Manage client queries and maintain compliance.
What We’re Looking For:

Experience: good experience in a similar bookkeeping role, ideally within a professional services or accountancy environment.
*
Sector Knowledge: Experience in commercial and/or agricultural accounting is highly advantageous.
*
VAT Skills: Strong understanding of VAT processes and Making Tax Digital requirements.
*
Software Proficiency: Skilled in Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, AutoEntry, or Farmplan (training provided if required).

Qualifications: AAT or equivalent is beneficial but not essential.
*
Independence & Initiative: Able to manage your own workload, meet deadlines, and take ownership of client accounts.

Communication: Clear and confident communicator, both written and verbal.
