Job Title: Waste Depot Manager – Facilities & Environment
Location: Swindon, SN2
Rate: £21.49 PAYE
Hours: 37 - 45 per week
Contract: 1 year minimum
Start Date: 1st October 2025
About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Waste Depot Manager to join our Facilities & Environment team on a temporary basis. This is a key role in overseeing daily depot operations, ensuring compliance with health & safety standards, and supporting the delivery of high-quality waste services to the local community.
The successful candidate will bring strong leadership, organisational skills, and the ability to manage a busy depot environment while maintaining excellent communication with staff, contractors, and senior management.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage the day-to-day operations of the Waste Depot, ensuring all activities run smoothly and safely.
* Lead, supervise, and motivate depot staff, including allocating tasks, managing rotas, and monitoring performance.
* Ensure compliance with all relevant health & safety, environmental, and operational standards.
* Oversee the maintenance and safe operation of vehicles, plant, and equipment.
* Monitor budgets, stock levels, and resource allocation to ensure efficient service delivery.
* Produce operational reports, performance data, and updates for management.
* Liaise with contractors, service providers, and internal council teams to resolve issues and maintain service quality.
* Lead by example, fostering a positive, safe, and efficient working environment.
* Support recruitment, induction, and training of depot staff as required.
* Identify and implement process improvements to maximise efficiency and service delivery.
What We’re Looking For
* Proven experience in depot, facilities, or waste operations management.
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage diverse teams.
* Excellent knowledge of health & safety compliance in an operational environment.
* Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
* Good IT literacy for reporting and operational planning.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
