Job Title: Design and Estimating Engineer (Data Centre Structured Cabling)

About Our Client: Our client is a leading main contractor specializing in cutting-edge data centre structured cabling construction projects. They deliver robust and high-performance network infrastructure solutions for some of the most demanding data centre environments. They are seeking a talented individual to join their team and play a crucial role in designing and costing complex network infrastructure.
The Role: As a Design and Estimating Engineer, you will be instrumental in the design and costing of passive infrastructure, including copper and fibre cabling, for our data centre projects. You'll review client and tender specification documents and drawings, liaise with key suppliers, and utilise CAD software (ideally AutoCAD and/or Revit) for detailed design work. A core part of your role will involve accurately costing projects and drafting comprehensive proposal documents. You will thrive in a collaborative environment, working closely with various internal departments, clients, consultants, and suppliers to ensure all internal and external deadlines are met, and that projects are designed and costed with precision. While the primary focus is on passive infrastructure, the role also encompasses elements of fire, life safety, and electronic security systems.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Progressing sales enquiries and tender requirements by collaborating closely with Business Development Managers to ensure a thorough understanding of customer needs.
Designing various life safety and security systems, alongside the core passive network infrastructure, based on customer requirements, specifications, drawings, and current industry standards.
Preparing comprehensive proposals, quotations, and tender documents, ensuring they are delivered on time and align with company standards.
Assessing risk factors influencing security and fire design, to either enhance accordingly or communicate back to the client.
Ensuring all quotations and system design specifications comply with applicable technical and regulatory standards and Codes of Practice.
Adhering to all Company policies and procedures.
Ensuring successful project handovers and meeting all deadlines.
Reviewing changes in customer specifications and modifying designs accordingly.

Good working knowledge of passive network infrastructure products and systems (copper & fibre cabling), including their features and limitations.
Proven design and estimating experience, with a strong ability to prepare accurate cost sheets and compelling proposal documents.
Experience of designing for data centres.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Exceptional interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated experience in reading and publishing specifications and technical drawings.
Excellent organisational and time management skills.
Outstanding attention to detail.Desirable:
Proficiency in the use of the latest AutoCAD and/or Revit packages.
Current knowledge of technologies, technical, and regulatory standards relevant to the design process.
Previous installation or commissioning experience within a relevant sector.
Knowledge of European regulatory standards.
CNIDP or RDCC design qualifications are ideal.
Proficiency in a European language is desirable but not essential.Working Conditions: This role offers flexibility depending on your experience. While the position can be remote for experienced individuals, an initial period of working in the office will be required to familiarize yourself with the design team and the processes. Occasional support may also be required at the client’s other offices and on-site at customer locations for design meetings.
