Madisons Recruitment are recruiting for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor on a permanent basis for a client of ours located in Reading. 

We are looking for a detail-oriented and ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team, supporting the delivery of cost and contract management across a range of earthworks and civil engineering projects. The successful candidate will gain valuable hands-on experience in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, contributing to the commercial success of infrastructure, highways, drainage, and large-scale groundworks schemes.

Responsibilities

Assist in preparing cost estimates, tender documentation, and contract evaluations for earthworks and civil engineering packages.
Monitor and manage project budgets, cash flows, and cost reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
Support the preparation of monthly valuations, payment applications, and final accounts.
Measure and value works on-site, ensuring accurate records are maintained for variations and changes.
Assist with the procurement of subcontractors and suppliers, including preparation of enquiry documents and analysis of quotations.
Liaise with site management teams to track progress, identify cost risks, and contribute to commercial strategy.
Ensure compliance with contractual terms and conditions, including NEC and JCT forms of contract.
Participate in site meetings and support with resolving any commercial or contractual issues that arise.
Requirements

Degree or working towards a qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related field.
Prior experience in civil engineering or earthworks projects is highly desirable.
Understanding of groundworks, earthmoving, drainage, and infrastructure-related activities.
Strong numerical, analytical, and communication skills.
Competent with Microsoft Excel and quantity surveying software (e.g., Causeway, Candy, or similar).
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Full UK driving licence (preferred due to site visits).
