Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant (1:1 Support – Down Syndrome)
Location: Maidstone, Kent

Salary: £95 – £100 per day

TeacherActive are proud to be working with a highly respected independent school in Maidstone, supporting their search for a SEND Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 with a student with Down Syndrome. The school is renowned for its warm, inclusive environment and commitment to helping all pupils flourish both academically and personally.

This is a full-time position with an immediate start, and for the right person, it has the potential to become a long-term role. The ideal candidate will be kind, adaptable, and passionate about supporting children with additional needs — someone who can bring positivity, patience, and creativity to every school day.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Provide 1:1 support to a student with Down Syndrome, helping them engage with lessons and access the curriculum.

Promote independence, confidence, and social interaction through positive encouragement and tailored support.

Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to adapt learning materials and approaches to suit individual needs.

Support emotional and social development through patience, empathy, and consistent encouragement.

Assist with daily routines and classroom activities to ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment.

✅ What We’re Looking For:

Experience supporting children with SEND, ideally with experience supporting students with Down Syndrome

A patient, nurturing and flexible approach to learning and behaviour

Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) preferred

Strong communication and teamwork skills

A genuine passion for making a difference in children’s lives
